The challenge and the opportunity for the American Chemical Society (ACS) and the American Indian and Alaska Native Communities is to create and implement a vision that seamlessly incorporates the western view of the chemical sciences within the indigenous way of life so as to preserve the intent and process of scientific inquiry. It is important to remember that within this process we intend to preserve indigenous (i.e., traditional values, norms, and belief systems).

Understanding how American Indian and Alaskan Native (AI/AN) scientists reconcile science and culture is an important component in meeting this challenge. To do this, Diversity Partners would like to invite ACS members who represent the American Indian and Alaska Native communities to share their opinions and thoughts about this issue.
